About this Event
Winners of the English PEN Award, translators Sawad Hussain and Sarah Ardizzone will be discussing language, literature, and the labour of translation.
Sawad Hussain is an Arabic-to-English translator whose work as been recognized by English Pen, the Anglo-Omani Society, and the Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation, among others. She is ajudge for the Palestine Book Awards and the 2023 National Translation Award. She has run translation workshops under the auspices of Shadow Heroes, Africa Writes, Shubbak Festival, the Yiddish Book Center, the British Library, and the National Centre for Writing. She has been selected to be the Princeton Translator in Residence in 2025.
Sarah Ardizzoneis a French-to-English translator who has more than 50 titles to her name, notably Alexandre Dumas, Faïza Guène, and Daniel Pennac. Twice recipient of the Marsh award, she has won the Scott-Moncrieff prize and a New York Times notable book accolade. She was made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2022. She is deputy chair of English PEN’s writers in translation committee, and a judge for Book Trust’s In Other Words initiative.
