Can the Brisbane 2032 Olympics create a better, fairer city for us all? Hear from the experts and have your say at this community summit.
About this Event

With over $7 billion of public investment, the Brisbane 2032 Olympics Games are a once in a generation opportunity to reshape our city with better public transport, a greener environment, and more affordable homes. But it won’t happen if we don’t ask for it.

One of the ongoing legacies of Expo88 is the historic and beloved South Bank precinct. It took a historic campaign to stop it being sold to developers for wall-to-wall high rise development, instead of public parkland.

The Olympics for the People Campaign is about a seven year push to deliver an Olympics that provides a better deal for the regular people of Brisbane.

Join Elizabeth Watson-Brown MP and Michael Berkman MP for a public summit to bring Brisbane residents together, hear from experts on what the Olympics has meant for cities around the world and what it could mean for Brisbane, and discuss what the 2032 Olympics legacy should be.

SPEAKERS

Eizabeth Watson-Brown, MP for Ryan, and award-winning architect, speaking on the need for an Olympics that puts people, not the property industry, first.

Michael Berkman, MP for Maiwar, speaking on the strategy for winning a better Olympics.

Philip Thalis, Professor of Practice at UNSW and award-winning architect, speaking on the lessons from the Sydney 2000 Olympics legacy.

Tessa Leggo, Director Fred St Landscape Architecture, speaking about the Green Pathways Gold Places plan for a positive Brisbane 2032 legacy.

Philip Oldfield, Head of School at UNSW Built Environment, speaking about how the Olympics can be used to deliver beautifully designed public and affordable housing.
