Full film Synopsis: Kal Glanznig is a former water polo athlete turned ocean advocate. Growing up surfing the beaches of Cronulla, he thought Australia had escaped the global plastic crisis. But when he joins a clean-up in East Arnhem Land — where Dhimurru Rangers pull a record number of ghost nets and plastic packaging off sacred beaches — his perspective is shattered. What follows is a journey across Australia: from remote coastlines to supermarket aisles, Parliament House to stormwater drains, beaches to landfills. Along the way, Kal interviews scientists, policymakers, and everyday Aussies stepping up against the rising tide of plastic pollution. He tracks how plastic infiltrates our ecosystems, our politics, and even our bodies — through urine tests of plastic chemicals and powerful personal stories from friends and family. But The Plastic Country is not just a warning — it’s a spark to inspire real change. Kal uncovers solutions already making an impact, from grassroots efforts to system-wide reforms — and shows how everyday Australians can flip the script on plastic, for good.
