Oil Painting Summer Camp

Oil painting: the most high-maintenance of all the mediums—and also the most rewarding!
It can feel intimidating at first, with all its brushes, solvents, mediums, and rules. But once you get the hang of it, you’ll see why the Old Masters chose oils as their medium of choice. Oils are luminous, versatile, and endlessly expressive, capable of rich textures and haunting depths. With the right guidance, anyone can learn their secrets.
In this camp, students will:
Explore the essential materials and substances that make oil painting possible.
Learn two traditional approaches: glazing and alla prima.
Create a practice project for each method.
Apply their favorite approach to a final still life of their choice.
By the end of camp, students will not only understand the “rules” of oils but also gain the confidence to bend them, creating their own expressive and unique works of art.
Notes
If your child has any unique needs that may require your presence or support, please feel comfortable attending and providing that to them. While we encourage building independence, we understand how certain needs may require special supports.
