Fall Migration at Governor Nelson State Park

Welcome to the Madison chapter of the Feminist Bird Club! We are a bird club dedicated to promoting diversity in birding and providing a safe opportunity to connect with the natural world while fundraising to protect the rights of LGBTQIA+ folks, women, and people of color.
Join us on Sunday, August 16 at 9:00am as we search for birds at Governor Nelson State Park. Governor Nelson tends to be one of the first places migrating warblers begin to show in the fall! In addition to warblers, we’ll search for other woodland species like vireos and cuckoos.
Governor Nelson is a state park which has an entry fee of $8 if you do not have an admission sticker on your vehicle. If this poses a financial barrier for you and you would like to attend, please reach out to us at [email protected].
Everyone is welcome at our events, no birding experience required! Our events are family friendly and open to all who respect our mission. Whether you’re brand new to birding or have been birding for decades, we’d love to welcome you to our community.

Directions and Parking: We’ll meet at the parking lot for the pet swim area. There is a sign directing you to this parking area as you enter the park. It is a large, paved parking lot with plenty of spaces. There is accessible parking available. Click here for a Google Maps pin.
Accessibility information: We will be walking a mix of flat and rolling terrain with a mix of grass and dirt trails that may be uneven in places. We expect to walk 1.5 to 2 miles during this event. An outdoor wheelchair could potentially be accommodated on these trails and we encourage you to contact us for more details. There are two sets of restrooms (flush toilets) at this location that our route will pass by. Please contact us if you have questions about how we can meet your accessibility needs for this event.
Binoculars are available to borrow. You will have the option to indicate if you need a pair before you checkout.
