October Poetry Slam, new venue
I always invite people to visit a slam once to clear the misconception of boring poetry. Most people are amazed by that myth being burst.
Not enough thanks can be extended to the community for making the move to our new host. We had a good first Slam but it was a bit tight and Beerstyles is large enough to allow us to move up front and be able to spread out and most importantly grow.
Again I will cover your non-alcohol drinks Tuesday, they have plenty of tasty drinks for all ages.
The sign up sheet goes out at 6:30p for the first 13 poets. Poets, bring 3 original poems for 2 rounds and hope you make the 3rd placement round. Everyone reads in the 1st round, if needed we may eliminate for the 2nd round (depends on timing and number of poets). Poems need to be original, under 3 minutes each, no costumes or musical instruments (over 3 min and points are deducted).
A sacrificial poet is needed to open the Slam, 1 original poem that allows the judges to calibrate their judging going forward.
We need an audience and judges. 5 judges rank each reading 1-10 and drop the high/low scores.
The poem and the poet are the important thing, our prizes are used books. Respect for the poet is the most important part, it is hard to present original poems on a mic in front of strangers.
Hope you give us a try, if you are new to Slams or are a fan. It is free and open to all ages.
