Attend the October session of our monthly book club! This event is open to all adults who have an interest in fiction, mythology, and the ancient world. Learn more about the Kelsey Book Club at https://myumi.ch/Drn1Q.This month, we are reading Olympus, Texas (2021) by Stacey Swann—a riveting family drama set in a small East Texas town. When March Briscoe returns home after a scandalous affair with his brother’s wife, his presence disrupts his family’s already fragile bonds. Amid the chaos, death and broken marriages ensue, further testing the family’s ties. Described as “a bighearted novel with technicolor characters, plenty of Texas swagger, and a powder keg of a plot,” Olympus, Texas explores themes of love, betrayal, and the complexities of family—bringing a modern twist to classical mythology.
Whether you have read Olympus, Texas before or it is new for you, join us for an evening of community and conversation led by Shannon Ness, university programs coordinator at the Kelsey Museum.
This event will take place in Room 125 of Newberry Hall; light refreshments will be served. Register for this session at https://forms.gle/eekCBRNuSwEYPKM79 by Monday, September 30.
This event is free and open to all visitors. If you have any questions or concerns regarding accessing this event, please visit our accessibility page at https://myumi.ch/zwPkd or contact the education office by calling (734) 647-4167. We ask for advance notice as some accommodations may require more time for the university to arrange.
