About this Event
Join us on Ocean Drive on August 23rd for a performance from Etienne Charles as part of the Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series, a free, weekly concert series presented by the Ocean Drive Association. Pack a picnic blanket or lawn chair to stake out your seat on the lawn. Showtime is at 6:00 PM.
Etienne Charles (born 1983) is a Trinidadian-American jazz trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and educator. Fusing straight-ahead jazz with French, Spanish, English, and Dutch Caribbean folk rhythms, he is celebrated for his bold improvisations, cinematic textures, and socially conscious multimedia storytelling. Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, coming from a four-generation musical lineage, he holds a Master of Music from The Juilliard School (2008), where he won the William Schuman Prize. He currently serves as a professor of studio music and jazz at the University of Miami at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
These events (every Sunday!) are free and open to the public-- and will take place in Lummus Park between 14th Street and 14th Place. Bring your chair, blanket, and picnic - ENJOY! Rainy-day location is inside The Betsy Hotel!
This program is part of the weekly Promenade Sunday Concert Series generously underwritten by The City of Miami Beach, The GMCVB and The Ocean Drive Association.
