About this Event

🌿 About Obaro Village: Rooted & Rising Summer Youth Academy

“Obaro” means “Future” in the Urhobo language of Nigeria. This dynamic summer academy is designed to empower young people from the African Diaspora—including African American, African, Afro‑Caribbean, immigrant, refugee, and unchurched youth—who often face barriers to educational equity, spiritual engagement, and cultural affirmation.Through a holistic and joyful approach, campers will experience:

  • STEAM Education – Hands‑on art-infused STEAM projects.
  • Faith Formation – Daily prayer, inclusive liturgies, and reflections on Black Catholic saints and leaders.
  • Leadership Development – Workshops, mentorship, and opportunities to grow as confident, compassionate leaders.
  • Cultural Arts & Storytelling – Music, dance, and digital storytelling rooted in African and Black Christian traditions.
  • College & Career Exploration – Field trips to local universities such as Marian University.
  • Community Building – Faith‑journey interviews with community members celebrating identity, culture, and joy.
