Dancer/Model: Shelby Green

Shelby Green is a Brooklyn based choreographer, director, and dance filmmaker whose bold, visually driven work combines rigorous movement technique with high camp theatricality and emotional vulnerability. Most recently, they presented the world premiere of their new dance, gasp, at the Osaka International Contemporary Dance Festival in Japan. Green is the founder and artistic director of Yaroque Dance Theatre, a company fiscally sponsored by New York Live Arts, whose work has been presented in New York, across the United States, and internationally. Their first evening length production, An Evening in Color, sold out at The Chain Theatre in New York City. Their choreography earned a BroadwayWorld nomination for Best Off Off Broadway Choreography. Green holds a BFA in Dance Performance from Southern Methodist University and draws from Balanchine, Graham, Gaga, clowning, and drag to create highly visual work for stage and screen.

Theme: Mental Health Awareness Month

Duration: Approx. 2hrs workshop with a 10 minutes break for costume change.

What to expect: The dancer will dance very slowly and will hold poses in between dance moves. The slow dance movements encourage the artists to attempt to draw the dance movement. Poses start at 30 sec to 1 min for warm up and then we move on to 3min, 5min, 8min poses in the first half and 5 min,10 min and 15 minutes poses in the second half. Dancer dancers slowly before holding each pose.

BRING ALL YOUR OWN MATERIALS, drawing boards, portable easels, or draw on pads on your laps, etc. No glitters, please. Be mindful of your belongings. The organizer or the venue are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Dixon Place has music stands that we often give to the artists to keep their materials or use it as a drawing board.

Each artist keeps his/her own drawings/paintings. The dancers and/or the organizers may request the artists for a photo of the art work to be posted in social media. It will be at the artists' discretions whether they want to share the photos of their art or not.

And lastly, there won't be any instruction or any instructor. We expect the attending artists to have prior knowledge of drawing and painting to try these workshops for a new experience.

Refund Policy: Case by case basis.

See you soon!
