About this Event
Spring has finally settled in New York, and with it comes the soft warmth and fresh green leaves we’ve all been waiting for. After a long, cold winter, this gentle shift into early summer feels especially refreshing.
In the world of Japanese tea, May is an important turning point. It’s the time when we switch from the sunken hearth (ro), used during the colder months, to the portable furo brazier. This change brings a lighter, cooler feeling into the tea room—just right for the season.
May is also traditionally seen as the start of summer in Japan. A warm breeze called kunpū begins to blow, and the world feels full of life and fragrance once again.
To celebrate this seasonal shift, we’ll be preparing tea with summer-style utensils, offering organic matcha, and sharing kaiseki meal inspired by the flavors of early summer.
Let’s gather and enjoy this beautiful moment together—with a bowl of tea and the breeze of the new season!
During this gathering, guests will enjoy:
- A serene and elegant tea ceremony demonstration
- The opportunity to enjoy freshly prepared matcha
- A beautifully arranged kaiseki-style Japanese meal reflecting the season
- An immersive atmosphere inspired by the refined beauty of wabi-sabi
