November Midterm Elections Candidate Forum: TAD Race

Vote smart this fall: Fort Worth Report, KERA and the League of Women Voters are holding candidate forums for the Nov. 3 Midterm Elections.

On Monday, Oct. 5, you’ll hear from candidates in the Tarrant Appraisal District race.

What is the Tarrant Appraisal District?

The Tarrant Appraisal District, or TAD, is the government entity responsible for local property appraisals and tax exemption administration in the county. Its nine-member board of directors hires the chief appraiser, votes on the budget and makes sure the district follows legal rules. Three of the members are elected by voters (these are the seats on the ballot Nov. 3).

Why does this election matter?

This is only the second time voters get a direct say over TAD board members. Texas voters approved a constitutional amendment in 2023 that gave them voting power for three members. Before that, the members were appointed by taxing entities. We’ve previously covered the impact of TAD policies.

Who is this forum for?

TAD is important to everyone in the county. Everyone pays taxes. All three seats are at-large or countywide, meaning every Tarrant County voter has a say in each of the TAD seats.

Candidates in other races are welcome to attend and mingle, but no candidate, regardless of forum involvement, is permitted to hand out campaign materials inside the building.
