Notre-Dame Cathedral Audio Tour: Inside & Out
About this Event
Notre-Dame just reopened after a 5-year rebuild and it looks nothing like you remember. The limestone is white again. The chapels are repainted. The spire is back. This audio tour, narrated by Ellen, a Paris-based guide with nearly 40 years of experience, tells you what you are actually looking at.
Start listening while you wait in line. By the time you walk through those famous doors, you will already know how medieval builders constructed this cathedral using nothing but compasses, geometry, and sheer ambition and why it took 162 years to finish.
Inside, the tour covers all 29 chapels, the Grand May paintings, and the stained glass windows, including the two massive rose windows dating from 1260. You will learn the story behind the Crown of Thorns reliquary, newly housed in a stunning 3-ton cedar and bronze sculpture. You will see the 14th-century Pieta, the choir stalls commissioned by Louis XIV, and the Grand Organ, 8,000 pipes, second largest in France.
Outside, the tour decodes the three sculpted portals on the facade, explains why those 28 kings lost their heads during the Revolution, and tells you which gargoyle is actually a devil.
Entry to Notre-Dame is free. Tickets must be booked in advance on the official cathedral website. This tour is your guide once you get there.
It's a tour guided by Exploro app, you will have the stops pinpointed on the map and the directions explained at each stop in case you need them.
