Norway’s Digital Sovereignty Capacity

Digital sovereignty is a fuzzy concept, but it refers to the amount of control a state or an individual has over the infrastructures that store, process, and circulate their data ☁️
Norway has become increasingly dependent on foreign providers, especially through the growing reliance on global cloud services. In this presentation, Helle Sjøvaag, professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, will talk about infrastructure dependencies and the democratic welfare state. She will discuss the levels of sovereignty that Norway has in the digital infrastructure, and what dependency on foreign providers means for citizens’ data sovereignty.
The aim is to engage in a discussion of what capacities exist between digital fortification and infrastructure capture, and how these may strengthen the sovereignty capacity supporting the Norwegian democratic welfare state.
☕ Breakfast is served from 09.00 and the talk is held at 09.15.
The event is free of charge and open to anyone interested. We will open for registration over the summer.
