This lecture is presented by Kidane Fanta Gebremariam, Associate Professor at the Museum of Archaeology, UiS. Through real-world examples, you’ll learn about use of advanced, multi-analytical techniques, bringing new insight into our cultural heritage. Focusing on the Rogaland region, this lecture explores the application of diverse analytical techniques for the study of rare and valuable archaeological, artistic, and historical materials.
The session then shifts from the past to the future, addressing one of today’s most pressing global challenges - reducing the carbon footprint. In view of the ever-increasing global demand for cement, low-carbon cement production, the development of low-carbon cementitious materials is moving rapidly from research to real-world application. You’ll gain insight into how analytical methods are used to study and optimize these materials - monitoring chemical composition, hydration, and microstructure, to ensure quality in performance and durability.
Bringing together cultural heritage and sustainable materials science, Gebremariam showcase how the same analytical tools can both preserve history and help build a greener tomorrow.
