Noojee Trestle Bridge + Toorongo Falls Day Hike
Sunday 14 June | 11:00am
Some places just stay with you.
Noojee is one of those places.
Tucked away in one of Gippsland’s most beautiful little pockets, this day hike feels like stepping into another world — tall forest, mossy tracks, mountain air, an old timber trestle bridge, and waterfalls that feel like they belong in a storybook.
It’s a little bit Narnia, a little bit hidden wonderland, and the kind of place that leaves you feeling quieter, lighter, and more connected to yourself.
We’ll begin with the Noojee Trestle Bridge Rail Trail, an easy out-and-back walk of around 6–6.4km, taking roughly 2 hours at a relaxed pace. The trail follows the old railway line through forest and leads us to the historic timber trestle bridge — one of Noojee’s most iconic and breathtaking sights.
After the rail trail, we’ll take a short drive to Toorongo Falls Reserve, where we’ll visit not one, but two waterfalls — Toorongo Falls and Amphitheatre Falls — on a beautiful rainforest loop walk.
This will be my third time visiting Noojee, and honestly, I never get tired of it. It has this peaceful, majestic quality that seems to settle somewhere deep in your soul. And for anyone experiencing it for the first time, it’s one of those “how is this only around two hours from Melbourne?” kind of places.
Expect fresh winter air, towering trees, ferny forest tracks, cascading waterfalls, muddy boots, and a slow, grounding day out in nature.
Walk style: Easy to moderate
Total walking: Approx. 8–9km across the day
Start time: 11:00am and an optional drink and/or pub meal after the hike at Noojee Hotel
Best for: Anyone craving a beautiful winter adventure without a huge hike
Bring: Warm layers, waterproof jacket, sturdy shoes, water, snacks/lunch, and a change of socks or shoes in case the tracks are wet.
A magical little winter escape — close enough for a day trip, but beautiful enough to feel like you’ve gone somewhere much further away.
