ICE may have slipped out of the headlines, but its machinery hasn't slowed. Inside the agency, the style of enforcement has shifted. The high-visibility, centrally orchestrated operations associated with former Secretary Noem have given way to a quieter, more decentralized model under new DHS leadership. Contracts for detention facilities are under review. Major infrastructure projects have been paused or redirected. The public face of enforcement has softened, but the underlying system remains large and active.
Arrest numbers are still high, yet the confrontational edge has eased. In major cities, residents report fewer uniformed officers in public spaces. Some federal agents have been pulled back from urban deployments, even as operations continue out of sight. These adjustments are layered on top of an enforcement apparatus that expanded significantly during Noem's tenure, leaving a far more robust baseline than before.
New regional guidance instructs officers to focus on individuals with criminal charges or convictions and to avoid engaging with protesters, a tactical shift meant to lower tensions. Local officials note that ICE's presence has faded from familiar public locations like Home Depot parking lots, but emphasize that the agency remains active behind the scenes.
Abroad, the United States is now entangled in what many describe as a reckless war of choice with Iran; a conflict launched without clear objectives, mounting in cost, and carrying the risk of making our nation less safe. Already, U.S. service members have been killed and injured. Oil and gas prices have surged, contributing to global economic instability. The administration's actions have drawn warnings from legal experts about the potential for violations of international law, and the U.S. is drifting into political isolation from long-standing allies.
Amid this turmoil, the president has shifted attention toward new threats of aggression, this time directed at Cuba, echoing earlier rhetoric toward Venezuela. The pattern is familiar, escalating tensions abroad while offering no coherent strategy at home. WAR IS NOT THE ANSWER.
