BACHATA (Level 1) - 7-8pm
Our Bachata (Level 1) program lays the foundations for social dancing through a curriculum of basic steps and fundamental movements. The focus of this class is to get participants comfortable with the music, the steps of this dance, and physical attributes that prepare one to dance well; like coordination, timing, and agility.
Important themes in the Bachata (Level 1) program are framing, connection, and patterned foot movement. This class will implement drills that get participants accustomed to turns and popular sequences in bachata social dancing.
SALSA (Level 1) - 8-9pm
Our Salsa (Level 1) program is a series of beginner-friendly classes designed to prepare participants for social dancing.
Participants will gain a foundation by acquiring knowledge and practice in the basics and fundamentals of Salsa dancing. In our Level 1 program, we assume no knowledge of dance from the participants. Additionally, no partner is needed to participate in our program.
Within the NJ Salsa (Level 1) curriculum, there are 18 movements that make up the core material. At the end of the first class, the instructors will offer to share the digital copy of the 18 movements. Internalization of the material from class combined with practice, are instrumental in progression.
SALSA (Open Level) Drill Program - 8pm
Introducing our new Salsa (Open Level) Drill Program!
The skill level of this program is "advanced beginner."
This program is a series of classes designed to help develop proficencity in the fundemental movements of NJ Salsa's Level 1 curriculum.
This class is designed for the student who has spent some time in the Level 1 program and is preparing for the Level 2 assessment.
This class is also designed for the student who is in the Level 2 program but who is in need, and/or, desires to reinforce the foundational & fundemental movements that lead to fulidity in social dancing.
Succently put, this program will focus on details of foundational concepts, the drilling of fundemental movements, and the explanation & demonstration of how most "Level 2" turn-patterns are grounded in the fundementals.
The instruction in the 'drill classes' will assume a base knowledge of the Level 1 curriculum. This is not a pattern-oriented program, but it will certainly make the dancer better prepared to execute intricate sequences when social dancing.
Students with at least 3 months of expereince in Salsa (Level 1), as well as Salsa (Level 2) students are invited to enroll.
The first class will be used as an assessment to determine whether the student is a good fit for this program. The final determination for participation in this program will be made by the instructor. If the instructor(s) determines that the "Level 1" program is a better fit for the participant, they will provide feedback on what concepts or movements to concentrate on in preparation for future participation in the "Drill Program."
LATIN MIX SOCIAL - 9-10:30pm
After our classes, we will offer a dedicated time to practice what we learned in class to a mix of Salsa, Bachata, and Merengue. This social is open to everyone in our programs, as well as other dancers of all levels, from novice to experienced. Want to invite friends!? By all means! There's no cover to get into this social and it's designed to develop community! The restaurant and bar upstairs will be open. Feel free to grab a delicious craft beer and bring it downstairs to the social!
