About this Event
Orirun—from the Yoruba Ori (head, soul) and Run (to originate)—means the Source: a meditation on return—to ancestry, to the natural world, to form itself.
NIHONCHA VOLUME I marks the first in an evolving series of gatherings that connect participants to Source through tea. This inaugural tasting features teas drawn from Japan’s varied landscapes, each selected for its distinct expression of place, craftsmanship, and spirit. The gathering unfolds as a guided tasting of seven loose-leaf teas and one matcha, where tea, incense, and music converge in a quiet awakening of the senses.
Each element—leaf, vessel, fragrance, sound—becomes its own language, shaping atmosphere, evoking memory, and guiding presence. Every tea has been hand-sourced by our host and curator from trusted farmers and producers, chosen for their flavor, aroma, and ability to embody the living spirit of land, lineage, and transformation.
Originating from the regions of Tōkai, Kantō, and Kyūshū, a few of the selections include a first-flush Shincha from the 2025 harvest, vibrant with the essence of spring; a lightly withered oolong from the volcanic highlands of Miyazaki, derived from a cultivar nurtured for over a century in mineral-rich soil; and a pan-fired green tea crafted in the rare kamairi style—an ancient Korean method introduced to Japan five centuries ago and now preserved in only a small fraction of modern teas. The matcha, ground on traditional granite mills maintained since 1947, carries a depth and softness born of time and care.
Each tea is paired with incense chosen to mirror and deepen its character, and with music drawn from analog warmth—tactile, rhythmic, and alive. Together, they shape a space of revival and sensory depth: an invitation to return—to one another, and to Source.
Three intimate sessions will be offered throughout the day: 12–1:30 · 2–3:30 · 4–5:30 (limit five guests per session)
$75 per person
Eventbrite adds a small fee to support ticketing, but the journey to tea is open. Contact the organizer for alternate arrangements or a direct ticket option—we’re here to share this experience with all who seek it.
