Night Crawlers

Do you ever find yourself stepping outside to take a closer look at the fascinating critters attracted to the light coming through your window on summer nights? If so, this is the walk for you!

This activity includes both a short hike and time spent with experts at our light traps. The Discovery Trail has a packed granite surface. We'll hike no more than one mile, and likely less. 

Who is Invited: Open to ages 5 and up; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike. Sorry, no group registrations. This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at [email protected] to schedule at a different time. 

Registration opens on Saturday, two weeks prior to the event, and closes at noon, the Thursday before the event. Though the hike is free, to the Natural Area apply.

To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a . SPECIAL NOTE: Reserving a Day Pass is NOT the same as making a program reservation.

When & Where to Meet: Program begins at 8:00PM. We'll start in the Group Picnic Pavilion. Lot A will have the closest parking. The parking lot and path to the pavilion are paved and near an accessible restroom.

What to Wear & Bring: Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes, insect repellent (ironic, right?) and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person. You may want to bring a blanket or portable chair to sit on.
