About this Event

Our talented new cohort of Migrateful chefs are wrapping up their initial training and getting ready to hold their first cookery classes to the public.

This training class will be led by Chef B from Nigeria at the in Clerkenwell, London.

Please note, during these training classes, we will be testing the dishes, and how the class runs. Think of it like a technical rehearsal at the theatre. This means it may run for longer than a normal class and involve some stop/starting. Our Chef Development team will also be present to guide and observe, along with volunteers who will help support the chef, and we will ask for your feedback at the end of the class.

A sample menu of the dishes that will be taught includes:

  • Jollof Rice and Plantain | Vegetarian; Milk
  • Chicken Obe Ata (Red Pepper Stew with Chicken) | Meat (Chicken); Milk
  • Aubergine Obe Ata (Red Pepper Stew with Aubergine) | Vegetarian; Milk
  • Efo Riro (Yoruban Spinach Stew) | Vegetarian; Milk,
  • Pounded Yam | Vegan; None
  • Coleslaw | Vegetarian; Eggs
  • Puff-puff (Nigerian Fried Dough) | Vegan; Gluten (Wheat)

This menu contains meat (chicken) but is vegetarian friedly ( 6/7 dishes are meat free). Kindly note that we will not be substituting any ingredients to accommodate dietary needs, so please only book into classes that suit your dietary requirements. Please be aware that while all allergens listed above have been identified as being in this menu, traces of all 14 allergens will be present in this training class.

Please see our when booking into the class for more information.

Throughout the class, Chef B will share stories about his food and culture. You’ll work together with other participants to prepare each of the dishes, before sitting down to share a meal together.

A message from our Chef B:

“I’m B and I’m from south-west Nigeria. I’m from a tribe called Yoruba. In Nigeria, Yoruba are one of the three largest tribes in Nigeria. The other two are Igbo and Hausa, but Nigeria has 250 ethnic groups/tribes with many different languages and culinary traditions.
My love for cooking started in my mum and aunt’s kitchen, where I learned that food is about care, culture and bringing people together. Their passion became my passion too. I enjoy blending traditional Nigerian flavours with my own touches to create dishes that feel familiar yet new. My mum and aunt are so impressed and I hope I impress you too!
In Nigeria, we cook with a lot of varieties of protein, using beef, chicken, goat, eggs, nuts and beans. The climate in Nigeria helps the farmers to grow many leafy vegetables, yam, sweet potatoes, plantain and cocoa. I can’t wait to share all of these wonderful ingredients with you in my class.
When I’m not in the kitchen, you’ll find me on the football pitch or in my dance class. I also love listening to music while cooking; it gives me inspiration and motivation. All that keeps me disciplined, focused and balanced. My goal is to honour my roots and inspire others through every plate I create and serve. ”

We’re excited to have you in the class! Please take note of a few final reminders:
