Nesen (@nesenesenesenesen) is a band from Riga, Latvia, formed in 2018. All band members come from various musical backgrounds – Alise Joste (vocals, keys), an accomplished Latvian singer-songwriter, known for her gentle and ethereal vocals, Karlis Josts (vocals, synths) and Aleksis Lurins (bass) who have been members of various local indie and alternative bands, and Janis Burmeisters (drums), who for two decades has been actively involved in the Latvian underground metal scene. This diverse shared experience translates into melodic song-writing against a heavy backdrop of dense and synth-driven arrangements. Their debut album “Tas būs ilgi” (2021) was recognized in the Annual Latvian Music Recording Awards as the best alternative album of the year, and was shortlisted as one of the top 10 records in the Austra Award – the Latvian version of the Mercury Prize. Their sophomore record “Gatavs” was released in February 2026
Nielslens Lielsliens (@nielslenslielslens) is a Latvian contemporary folk music group. It has been active since 2009, performing in interesting venues, for example, public saunas and releasing recordings in audio cassettes. Original music has been published on the albums “Negaidīti varoņi” (Unexpected Heroes) (2024), “Kad kniebējs kniebj” (When Frost Bites, It’s Warmer Together) (2019), “Aure” (2014) and “Nielslens Lielsliens” (2012). The band’s musicians are Mareks Kaminskis (drums, percussion, kilimandjaro, voice) and Klāvs Kalnačs or Siensliens (voice, guitar, guembri, percussion) and Vija Moore (balafon and voice).
The album “Unexpected Heroes” is dedicated to real stories of heroes spotted in Latvian and foreign media and in the hairdressing salon. They tell about a Latvian marathon runner in Antarctica, a man who wrongly tried to destroy a colony of endangered birds, bears coming to the Vijciems village and other unexpected and inspiring events. Their concerts are a lively experience with danceable acoustic music with a dancer showing moves for audiences to dance with and to illustrate the stories being told. This year the album received the prestigious “Golden Microphone” award for “Best Indie Album”.
Before and after concerts music will be selected by Raivo & Dj RifRaf
