Next Steps - Summer & Winter on 4S
About this Event
Dates: Saturdays 9/26, 10/10, & 10/24, 10am - 12pm each day. Sales end: 9/19, 5pm. Ticket: $70 + Eventbrite fee. Instructor: Barb Gallagher. Materials fee: none. Skills Needed: must be able to warp a loom independently and read a draft. Class Limit: 6. Class Location: 1st and 2nd floors. Minimum Age: Adult
Next Step Classes are for students that know how to warp a loom by themselves and how to read a draft. No loom is required at class – you will weave on your own.
1st class is the introduction and explanation of the weave structure. A draft for a sampler will be provided. 2nd class you bring your sampler to class for questions and comments. Then you plan your final project which you bring to 3rd class. You must have access to a 4S loom. If you need a guild loom, make arrangements with the equipment chair, Janie Yates at [email protected].
The Summer & Winter structure weaves a reversible cloth with areas of pattern and background. Since it has no long floats, it can be used for towels, placemats, coverlets, and even for scarfs and fabric.

Questions about this class? Contact the instructor, Barb Gallagher at [email protected].
Barb Gallagher has been weaving since she stumbled upon a weaving studio in Los Angeles in the 70’s. She says she was so excited, it sent her back to school where she earned a BA in Art from Edgecliff College (now Xavier University) in Cincinnati, Ohio. She did her thesis on rug weaving, but since then she’s enjoyed weaving functional art such as towels, scarfs, shawls, and blankets. Barb has been teaching weaving for more years than she wants to admit. Barb is also the owner of Weavers Loft, a retail weaving supply shop as well as the home of her weaving studio.
If you are not feeling well, please contact the instructor instead of coming to the class. On a case-by-case basis, we may be able to reschedule you into a future class or provide a make-up lesson. Ticket fees are not normally refunded.
Depending on the CDC Guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.
Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class. Contact the Education Committee Chair at [email protected] for permission before registering any minor in a class.
Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
