Newsies

Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, "Newsies" follows a ragtag band of teenage newspaper sellers, the "newsies" led by charismatic orphan Jack Kelly. When powerful newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer raises the price they must pay for their papers, Jack rallies the kids to strike with the hlep of plucky young reporter Katherine Plumber, demanding fair treatment and respect. As they organize a citywide strike, they fight not only for better wages but also for dignity, solidarity, and hope in a harsh world. Along the way there's friendship, courage, music, and the belief that united, even scrappy kids can stand up to power and "seize the day".
