'F*CK HANSON: How to fight the far right' will be taking place on the 21st July. The session on Engels' Socialism: Utopian and Scientific will be shifted two weeks later to the 4th August, and the session on Angela Davis' Women, Race, Class will take place on 18th August.
If you've found this event, then you want to learn more about socialist politics. Socialist Alternative, Australia's largest revolutionary socialist group, is hosting a series of talks and discussions about four classic Marxist texts. This is the perfect way to begin educating yourself and get involved in socialist politics in the real world.
The talks will be hosted at 6pm every second Tuesday at the NUSpace campus of the University of Newcastle.
You do not have to have attended prior talks to come to later ones. Each talk will be followed by group and all-in discussions.
21/07 - F*CK HANSON: How to fight the far right
This session is not a book club. Since we have begun the Winter School, the rise of Pauline Hanson has become the main question of Australian politics. One Nation has grown to 70,000 members, vastly outnumbering the forces of organised socialists in Australia, and is even larger than Labor and the greens combined. If we want to put a stop to their growth, we need a strategy, but not all strategies are equal. This session will be an argument that it is socialist politics, and only socialist politics, that can meaningfully challenge the far right, in Australia and internationally.
04/08: Socialism: Utopian and Scientific by Frederich Engels
In Socialism: Utopian and Scientific, Engels explains the theoretical orgins of Marxism. He discusses the history of socialism prior to Marxism why the unique insights of Marxism came to lead the socialist movement in the 19th century.

18/08: Women, Race, and Class by Angela Davis
Davis' Women, Race, and Class is an historicall treatment of the origins of oppression in capitalism. Rather than being independent, Davis argues that the struggle for women's liberation and black liberation are inextricably linked with the liberation of the working class.

After each meeting closes, we will head to the pub down the road to continue informal discussion.
