NEW: The Hidden Story of Invasive Species
About this Event
On July 6th, we present : "The Hidden Story of Invasive Species" by Prof. Krystal Nunes, PhD.
What happens when a species enters an ecosystem that was never meant for it? Sometimes the change is subtle. Other times, it quietly rewrites the rules of an entire landscape.
In this eye-opening talk, Prof. Krystal Nunes explores the science of invasive species - how plants and other organisms spread, establish themselves in new environments, and reshape ecosystems in ways that are often irreversible.
Using local Canadian case studies alongside global examples, this talk goes beyond the textbook definition of “invasive.” It reveals how these species don’t just arrive - they adapt, compete, and transform everything around them.
The talk also explores the human side of ecological management: what it actually takes to respond to invasions once they begin, and why prevention is often far more complex than it sounds.
By the end, you’ll start to notice landscapes differently - not as static environments, but as living systems constantly negotiating change.
