About this Event
Have you recently planted yourself in Delaware? Whether you’re new to the First State, new to gardening, or simply ready to grow with native plants, this workshop will help you put down strong roots!
Join Master Gardener Karen Wilkins for a lively and informative session on gardening successfully in our unique coastal environment. Karen’s gardening journey has taken her from California to the rocky soils of Texas—and finally to the sandy, nutrient-poor soils of the East Coast. Along the way, she’s learned that every region has its own personality, and Delaware is no exception!
In this fun, beginner-friendly workshop, Karen will share:
· How to garden successfully in Delaware’s sandy, often nutrient-deficient soils
· The difference between tidal and non-tidal environments—and why it matters
· Easy-to-grow native plants that thrive in our local conditions
· How native plants support pollinators, wildlife, and a healthier ecosystem
· Practical tips to help new gardeners avoid common frustrations and grow with confidence
Whether you’re starting your very first garden bed or simply looking to garden smarter in your new home, you’ll leave inspired, informed, and ready to dig in.
Because in Delaware, the secret to gardening success is simple: right plant, right place—and a few good native friends!
Participants receive 20% on any plants purchased on the day of the class.
