New Bern Resolves: 252nd Anniversary

Join Tryon Palace, the Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution and other patriotic groups for the FREE event in celebration of the 252nd anniversary of the New Bern Resolves.
The Tryon Palace Grounds and Gardens will be open to the public for FREE for this event from 9am – 11am.
Event Rundown
9:30 a.m. – Parade
Begins behind the North Carolina History Center, travels down Metcalf Street, turns left onto Pollock Street and continues through the Tryon Palace front gates to the South Lawn (15 minutes to walk the route)
Parade participants include Tryon Palace Fife & Drum Corps, 1st Regiment of the North Carolina Continental Line, New Bern and State SAR, Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter of DAR, Saint John’s Masonic Lodge No. 3, Alamance Battleground, National Sojourners, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Scouting America — East Carolina Council.
10:00 a.m. – Ceremony begins on Tryon Palace Historic Site South Lawn
11:00 a.m. – Closing of Ceremony
This event is open to the public and FREE to attend. ( Tickets required after 11:00 am to enter the Tryon Palace Grounds and Gardens.)
About the New Bern Resolves on 1774
The New Bern Resolves represent reflected the growing discontent of the colonies with British rule. Adopted on August 27, 1774, by 71 delegates to North Carolina’s First Provincial Congress, the New Bern Resolves represented an early, expression of resistance to British policies by calling for economic sanctions against Great Britain and its trading partners. As one of the earliest calls for solidarity among the colonies, the New Bern Resolves laid the groundwork for broader a revolutionary movement.
In addition to inspiring other communities in North Carolina to adopt similar measures, the New Bern Resolves helped galvanize support for the First Continental Congress that met in Philadelphia in September 1774. Representatives from the colonies coordinated a collective response outlined in the Continental Association.
