On August 27th, 1905, John Moore, from Dover, NC, was lynched after an accusation of assaulting a white woman in Clarks, NC on August 25th. Moore was soon captured and brought to court for a hearing in New Bern, NC. After being arraigned, the following day, at approximately 1 am on the morning on of August 27th, Moore was abducted by a group of masked white men and taken to the Neuse River Bridge, located downtown New Bern, where he was hung and shot in an act of racial violence.
