Give those old neckties a brand-new purpose! In this fun, hands-on class, you’ll learn how to transform an old chair into a functional piece of art — a colorful, memory-filled seat woven entirely from neckties.
Bring a chair that could use a little love and a collection of ties that have been tucked away for years or newly found treasures. You’ll learn the weaving process step-by-step, creating a sturdy, eye-catching seat that tells a story with every strand.
Whether the ties once belonged to your dad, granddad, a dear one, or were discovered just for this project, your finished chair will be a heartfelt tribute — a one-of-a-kind “artful rescue” that’s as meaningful as it is stylish.
No experience needed — just bring your sense of humor, a few good stories, and your creative spirit!

What to Bring: Neck Ties & and an Old Chair
About your instructor:
Since she wove a new cane seat on an old rocking chair nearly 50 years ago, Jo Rusin has been fascinated with the history, creativity, and comfort of woven chair seats. In 1993, after retiring from the Army, she began weaving chair seats as a business outside of Atlanta, GA. She taught weaving for many years at the John C. Campbell Folk School, and more recently in community education programs in Hancock County and Gulfport. Sharing this traditional craft with others is her passion and Jo is thrilled to be doing it on the Mississippi Gulf Coast where her roots began.
