Virtual Training - "Navigating the Intersection Between Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders"

Presentation Information:
This will be a four-hour presentation in which participants will explore working with individuals experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders, along with the connections between these challenges and substance use disorders. The training will review best practices for assessment and diagnosis, as well as etiology and treatment options. Attendees will leave with a toolbox for intervention strategies and local resources.
Objectives:
- Participants will gain an understanding of the development and interrelationship of addiction in conjunction to PTSD and other mental health disorders.
- Participants will learn the clinical implications of substance misuse on mental health treatment.
- Participants will learn strategies and current best practices for supporting individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.
- Participants will gain skills needed to formulate meaningful treatment goals and objectives for clients with co-occurring disorders that are focused on behavioral changes.
This training is worth four(4) continuing education hours.
Training hours have been approved for four (4) continuing education hours by the Maine Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

About the presenter:
Jim Gorham, LCPC, LCMHC has worked in the field of co-occurring disorders treatment for over 20 years. He has held a combination of clinical, supervisory and leadership positions in Maine and New Hampshire at both nonprofit and corporate programs. He is passionate about helping people do the best they can in their recovery process.
