Navigating Secondary School - in person
About this Event
Secondary school can be a complex time for young people, with new structures, increasing expectations and important transitions as they move through different stages of their education. These changes can feel especially significant for young people who are adopted or care experienced.
This workshop will help you think about how to support your young person as they settle into secondary school, manage key transitions and respond to the changing demands of school life. It will also explore how relationships evolve during adolescence, and how these changes can impact behaviour, wellbeing and engagement with school.
By attending this workshop, you’ll gain practical insights into how to work with secondary schools, understand your young person’s experience and feel more confident in supporting them through the opportunities and challenges these years may bring.
Topics we’ll cover include:
- how secondary schools work and building positive relationships with staff
- supporting key transitions, including starting secondary school and preparing to leave
- understanding teenage brain development and its impact on behaviour
- how relationships change during adolescence, with family, friends and the wider world
- an overview of national assessments and what they mean for your young person
