About this Event
Discover the art and science of natural dyeing in this beginner’s workshop! Participants will learn the fundamentals of transforming plant material and kitchen scraps into beautiful, lasting dye.
During the program, participants will learn about the materials needed for natural dyeing and walk through the essential three-step fabric preparation process that helps dyes bond to fiber. Participants will observe the process of extracting color from natural materials and learn how different plants create a wide range of hues.
After the demonstration, participants will have the opportunity to create their own dye jar using a natural dye of their choosing. Each person will add an item to their jar to begin the dyeing process and take it home to finish developing the color.
By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with:
- A naturally dyed item of their own
- Instructions for natural dyeing at home
- A foundational understanding of natural dye materials, preparation, and care
At the end of the workshop, participants may choose to take a short guided walk around the farm to identify plants that can be used for natural dyeing.
This workshop is perfect for natural dye beginners, crafty fiber artists, gardeners, or anyone interested in diving into the hidden colors in the natural world!
