About this Event
This year marks the third year that the Healthy Populations Institute, the IWK Mental Health and Addictions team, the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers, and youth advocate Stacie Smith have partnered to co-host an event for National Day of the Child (November 20). These events seek to empower youth to speak on the issues affecting them. Last year we heard from youth on 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, mental health, and microaggressions and racism. Over the last 12 months, the youth we collaborate with have consistently raised climate change and nature as key themes of discussion across their circles. A common thread of hope has run through these discussions, resulting in us adopting a ‘showcase’ approach for exemplary collaborative and community-oriented efforts to address youth concerns.
In 2024, we’ve also partnered with Riverside School in Albert Bridge to highlight the amazing collaborative work they have done in developing Riverside’s Knowledge Path. Riverside’s Knowledge Path is a wonderful example of integrating nature into learning and teaching and ensuring that youth feel connected with the land around them – ultimately promoting positive stewardship among future generations.
We'll be hosting a hybrid event that highlights the work done at Riverside school (video and presentation from members of the school) and provides a platform (panel discussion) for youth and adults who work with youth to engage in dialogue about nature and climate change.
Keep an eye out for more information (venue and speakers) as we get closer to the date!
