What stories do Malta’s plants and animals hold?Discover this and more on Wednesday 18th March, in ‘Nature in Maltese Folklore – The Supernatural in the Natural’, an evening lecture by biologist and published author Stephan D. Mifsud at the National Museum of Natural History in Mdina.
The museum offers a fitting backdrop for a journey where nature and belief intersect. Delivered in English, the lecture delves into a carefully curated selection of Maltese flora and fauna that feature prominently in local folklore, legends, and traditional beliefs.
It reveals how native plants and animals have been woven into Malta’s cultural imagination over generations, symbolising protection, healing, superstition, omens, and moral lessons. The talk highlights the deep and often overlooked connections between the natural environment and the island’s intangible heritage.
The lecture starts at 18:00 and ends at 19:30. Tickets can be purchased online here: https://heritagemalta.mt/store/e1918/ or from any Heritage Malta museum or site.
