Activity description

Join The Gardening Drawing Club for a free natural dye workshop that reveals a palette of colours from what would otherwise first have been plant-based kitchen waste, such as peels, pits and much more.This workshop will take place at OmVed Gardens, a green scape, food project and educational space tucked behind Highgate village, in North London.

During the period of time during which the fabrics will lay in the dye baths, we will be drawing and painting inspired by the shapes and colours to be encountered in OmVed Gardens.

This workshop is led by artist Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck and directly inspired by her series of collaborative installations, '' ('To Think, To Eat' To Share', 2015 - Present). It is an entry-level workshop in natural dye, and no prior experience is required. This method is one that participants repeat at home, with no additional material purchased other than what is to be found on most kitchen shelves.

If you can, please bring clean unwanted pieces of lightly coloured plant-based fabric.

About The Gardening Drawing Club

The Gardening Drawing Club is a series of unique events with a holistic approach offering free access to arts and horticulture in Britain. With monthly happenings, The Gardening Drawing is hosted in a broad range of locations, from art centres to community gardens and temples; the events range from workshops to talks and experiences. Veganic gardening methods are employed through The Gardening Drawing Club, advocating for gentleness and compassion while supporting seed sovereignty, racial, climate and land justice and reparation, biodiversity, and animal liberation.

The Gardening Drawing Club is a form of Seva and is on a shared mission to integrate the joys of gardening and drawing in others' lives for individual and community well-being. `The project was founded in 2021 by artist Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck.
