September 2025:August - September: Kicking off this August - September 2025 in various locations, the NASA Space Apps Cambridge community will come together through virtual and live socials, educational events, professional networking, and inspiring speaker series.

September 2025: Multiple virtual events, educational events, pizza parties, ice cream socials, and gatherings - all bringing together our new community!

September 21 - October 3, 2025: Launch events across more than a dozen partner organizations, companies, and college campuses in Cambridge, Greater Boston, and New England.

October 4-5, 2025: The NASA International Space Apps Challenge main hackathon event!

During the hackathon, NASA Space Apps Challenge Participants around the world gather at hundreds of in-person and virtual Local Events to address challenges submitted by NASA Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).

At NASA Space Apps Cambridge, we will be doing this Hybrid (virtual + in person) and mostly virtual.

Multiple Venues: Harvard, MIT, and 10+ academic institutions, and virtual

Participants will have a chance to tackle one of 18 NASA Space Apps Challenges, using creativity, science, technology, arts, film, writing, media, education, storytelling, and whatever participants find to be useful knowledge and skills!

Participants will also have a chance to use NASA’s free and open data and Space Agency Partners’ data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.

The NASA Space Apps challenges range in complexity and topic, tasking participants with everything from creating artistic visualizations of NASA data - to conceptualizing and developing informational apps and software programs. There is also the option to Create Your Own Challenge!

Everyone of all ages, skill levels, and professional backgrounds are invited to participate in the NASA International Space Apps Challenge! NASA Space Apps Cambridge is the local arm of the International Challenge, and serves the City of Cambridge, the City of Boston, and the Greater Boston Metropolitan Area.

Participating & Joining/Forming a Team: Participation in the NASA Space Apps Challenge is done in Teams. You can join as a team of one, or you can form a team with others, to a maximum team size of 6 members.

You can form or join teams however way you like. You can organize around a NASA Challenge you want to work on. Either form a team around that Challenge, or find a team that is working on that Challenge and join them.

There are many options and configurations:

For students:

• You can organize or join a Team by college/university.
• You can organize or join a Team with members across other colleges/universities.
• You can organize or join a Team based on your student organization/student club.
• You can get your friends together and form a team to work on this over a fun weekend.
• You can be a Team of one, and join the NASA Space Apps Challenge on your own.

For working professionals, artists, entrepreneurs, educators:

• You can organize or join a Team by company, or by organization/institution.
• You can organize or join a Team with members several companies/organizations/institutions.
• You can organize or join a Team based on your professional association or community group.
• You can get your friends together and form a team to work on this over a fun weekend.
• You can also be a Team of one, and join the NASA Space Apps Challenge on your own.

For families:

• You can form a Family Team, and tackle a challenge together as a family!
• This could be a family bonding activity!
• Please note - Participants below the age of 18 will need to have their legal guardian or parent join them at the event, or have a written permission from their parent or legal guardian to join the event.

Note on Logistics:

On October 4-5, 2025 - NASA Space Apps Cambridge will be a HYBRID event – both virtual and onsite, with multiple onsite locations across Cambridge and the Greater Boston Metropolitan Area and Massachusetts.

You are encouraged to work wherever you want to, and wherever you feel like you can be your best and do your best as a Team.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Registration:

• We must authenticate everyone participating in NASA Space Apps Cambridge, so all interested Participants to NASA Space Apps Cambridge should first pre-register on our Eventbrite Pre-Registration Page.
• Please use your university/college or work email to register, for easier authentication.
• This specific Registration Page of NASA Space Apps Challenge is the Final Registration page where you confirm your Team and register your Team to participate in NASA Space Apps Cambridge.
• Only Participants that have Pre-Registered on this Eventbrite, and have been authenticated and confirmed for Final Registration, will be ultimately confirmed in the NASA Registration Page.

Basic Eligibility & Registration Requirements for NASA Space Apps Cambridge:

• NASA Space Apps Cambridge is open specifically to all students (including international students), professionals, and legal residents who are currently living and/or studying and/or working in the City of Cambridge City, City of Boston, and the Greater Boston Metropolitan Area - and/or students from specially invited academic institutions in Massachusetts and New England beyond the Greater Boston area.
• Participants are required to be living/working in these geographic areas (or come from specially invited academic institutions) during the time of the NASA Space Apps Kickoff/Launch Receptions (Oct. 1-3, 2025) and NASA Space Apps Hackathon Days (Oct. 4-5, 2025).
• Every NASA Space Apps Cambridge Participant will be authenticated by our Team e.g. you must present a valid current university ID or government-issued ID to our Team, who will follow up with you after your registration.

Please note that we will not confirm and not retain Registrants who:

1) do not meet our basic eligibility requirements, or

2) do not reside within our defined geography during our Hackathon Days, or

3) who live/study beyond Cambridge/Greater Boston but do not come from specially invited academic institutions in New England, or

4) who are not authenticated by our Team.
