WOONDAMING NAIDOC ROUND CELEBRATION
Saturday 4 July | John Reid Oval (Maamba)
Join us on Saturday 4 July as Forrestfield Football Club proudly celebrates NAIDOC Round with a special afternoon of football, culture and community.
Event Schedule
🕧 12:30pm – Reserves v Safety Bay
🕑 2:15pm – Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony, Traditional Dance Performance & Didgeridoo Performance
🕝 2:45pm – League v Safety Bay
Everyone is invited to experience this powerful cultural ceremony before the League match. Taking place at the conclusion of the Reserves game, it will be a meaningful celebration of First Nations culture and is one not to be missed.
The day also marks an important milestone for our club.
As part of Forrestfield Football Club's ongoing commitment to recognising and celebrating First Nations culture, strengthening cultural understanding and advancing reconciliation, the club will proudly be known as Woondaming throughout the NAIDOC Rounds.
The initiative forms part of the club's broader cultural inclusion program, developed with the support of WA Football, the City of Kalamunda, Gambarra Building Supplies and Stephen Price MLA.
The adoption of the name Woondaming has been guided through extensive consultation with a local Elder, the club's Cultural Coordinator Neil Winmar, the Forrestfield Football Club Committee, the Whadjuk Corporation, WA Football, the Perth Football League and the City of Kalamunda.
Woondaming is a historic Noongar place name recorded in the early 1900s as part of the Country of Whadjuk Elder Joobaitch, near Maamba, the Aboriginal camp and reserve once located at present-day Hartfield Park, Forrestfield.
The club has chosen this name because of its strong connection to the Forrestfield area and the rich Aboriginal history of the land on which the club stands and plays.
The official Woondaming NAIDOC logo has been designed by senior player and the club's Cultural Coordinator, Neil Winmar, with further information about its meaning to be shared during NAIDOC Week.
Through the adoption of the name Woondaming, Forrestfield Football Club proudly acknowledges the enduring connection of Whadjuk Noongar people to this Country and pays respect to Elders past and present.
