Myth & Mantra: Durga at West Asheville Yoga
In Myth & Mantra, we will explore Durga’s origin myth and practice a fully embodied mantra meditation technique called ajapa japa.
The Sanskrit word japa means “repeating or muttering a prayer or mantra”. The letter A in front of the word japa means “without.” Ajapa japa is the practice of japa without the mental effort normally needed to repeat a mantra.
Through her ancient myth and mantra meditation we will learn about and connect with the Hindu Goddess, Durga. Durga is both a warrior and a mother goddess. Her energy is deeply needed in our world! We can tap into her qualities when we need strength, protection and clarity of vision.
No experience necessary. Printed versions of the mantra will be provided and pronunciation will be reviewed. All are welcome.
