Exercising Caprice — A Violin Recital with Mark Menzies and Friends (featuring pianist Flavio Villani)
Musical Offerings 2026 continues with an intimate and adventurous evening of chamber music led by internationally acclaimed violinist Mark Menzies.
Spanning baroque masterworks, contemporary explorations, improvisatory textures, and lyrical collaborations, the programme features music by Mark Menzies, Telemann, Bartók, Eve de Castro-Robinson, McIndoe, Riabinkina, Villani, and Rachmaninov.
The evening opens before the concert itself, as audiences enter into an immersive soundscape created by bowed singing bowls distributed throughout the venue — a meditative and resonant sonic environment that gently transforms the space into one of listening, memory, and reflection.
At the centre of the programme is the idea of “caprice” not only as virtuosity, but as imagination, spontaneity, intimacy, and freedom of expression. The concert brings together solo violin works, chamber collaborations, and musical dialogues between old and new traditions.
Mark Menzies has performed internationally as violinist, conductor, and educator, and is widely recognised for his commitment to contemporary music and innovative performance practice. He is joined by pianist Flavio Villani and guest musicians for this unique concert experience in the intimate setting of St Heliers Church & Community Centre.
