About this Event
To coincide with the launch of his first book, Music Films: Documentaries, Concert Films and Other Cinematic Representations of Popular Music (BFI/Bloomsbury), Louder Than Words presents Neil Fox in conversation with filmmaker and musician Carl Hunter (Sometimes Always Never, The Farm).
Featuring clips from films discussed in the book, Neil and Carl will discuss the evolution of Music Films from the 1950s to the current day, arguing for them to be considered a vital cinematic genre in their own right, not just the visual extension of an artist’s audio output.
Covering Jazz, Pop, Rock, Hip Hop and various other popular music forms, the book focuses predominantly on twenty-first century works, alongside requisite classics such as A Hard Day’s Night, Don’t Look Back, Gimme Shelter and Stop Making Sense, to show how the Music Film has become a fascinating place for working through the tensions between artists, management, filmmakers and audiences, and how what is revealed in different types of performance can provide authentic insight into the working lives of musicians and bands.
We have two ticket options available: * Event Only and *Event with Discounted Book Combo deal - books will be available for collection at the Festival.
Our event will be followed by a dedicated signing event with Neil and Carl. RRP books will also be available for purchase on the day.
