The Mricchakatik of Shudrak (The Clay Cart by Shudraka) is a comedy-drama from the classical Sanskrit era. MiTheatre – (Melbourne Indian Theatre) is presenting this play in mid-November 2024. Performed entirely in the Sanskrit Language with English side titles, this will be a unique opportunity to experience a drama in Sanskrit. English side titles and translation will allow the audience to clearly understand the drama.Mricchakatik is the classic love story of Charudatta and Vasantasena, set in the turbulent socio-political landscape of the ancient city of Ujjaiini. Colorful characters and scenarios bring this tale of love, fate and destiny to life – performed in Ten distinct acts over 3 hours with 2 short intervals.
This is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the art of Sanskrit theatre, with a cast that has been undertaking this enormous challenge over the past few years.
