Mowing to Monarchs (M2M) is a program established by the Dubuque County Conservation Board and the Dubuque County Master Gardners to provide resources and tools to private landowners to convert turf grass into a pollinator-friendly habitat. Since the program was established in 2020 nearly 400 landowners have converted over 26,000 square feet of turfgrass to what is defined as native pocket habitat throughout Dubuque County. You are invited on a tour to see some of these turf-to-native pocket conversions and how they are maturing! There will be four to five sites included on this tour. The sites will highlight native plants, unique landscaping, and good gardening practices.
Of the sites featured, you'll find examples of mature native pockets, recently planted pockets, curbside pockets, and partial shade pockets. You may even get to see some site prep through solarization, in preperation of more native pockets.
Exact tour locations will be emailed to you at a later date! Feel free to invite anyone that is intrigued by native plants to join you on the tour!
