Join us at the Weaverville Community Center on August 27, 2026 at 7:00 PM (Eastern Time) as Cemetery Remembrance Project leaders share how community members, high school students, churches and colleges have come together to explore an often overlooked part of area history.
"What we're finding is not just history on paper," says Mars Hill University professor Jonathan McCoy, "but connections to families and stories that deserve to be told."
The Cemetery Remembrance Project contains at least two dimensions:
(1) the work of identifying, preserving, restoring and maintaining physical reminders of forgotten ancestors, and
(2) the work of retrieving stories of those ancestors as individuals worthy of memory and respect.
In a time when accurate history itself is at risk, do not miss this update of local efforts to clarify our past and thus enrich our future.
