Moth Discovery Mornings at Potteric Carr
About this Event
Moths are beautiful creatures, some are stripy, some are spotty, some are speckly, all with strange names, shapes and colours. Get exclusive early morning access to our Nature Discovery Centre to learn more about them!
Normally to discover the full range of what British moths have to offer, you have to look for them at night when the majority of our species are flying. However, with our specialist moth traps we are able to harmlessly capture moths at night using light and then check them in the morning. Join our expert moth trappers as they talk you through their findings and unravel the mysteries of the moths from the night before! You'll have the chance to get up close and personal with our incredible fluttery friends.
By surveying and recording the species we find, we to help build a picture of how our wonderful moths are getting on locally and nationally.
Tea and coffee will be available on arrival.
Our popular on site cafe will be open from 9:30am if you fancy making a morning of it with a delicious breakfast.*
This event takes place in our Nature Discovery Centre cafe and outside decking area, Potteric Carr Nature Reserve is open from 9:30am, and normal admission costs apply.
*Breakfast not included.
Please note heavy rainfall the night before will likely result in no moths being trapped, in this case we will let you know a suitable day for this event to be rescheduled and if you are unable to attend the rescheduled date a full refund will be provided.
