Join us for Morning Calm with Edward Warner, pianist from the Royal College of Music, who will be playing works by Brahms, Haydn, JS Bach, Poulenc, Scriabin, Debussy and Chopin

Morning Calm is a short piano recital beginning at 8.40am, consisting of around 10-12 minutes of music followed by a few minutes' silence for reflection and meditation before ending with brief prayers for the day ahead. You are most welcome to stay for the whole recital or if you would prefer not to stay for the Christian conclusion to leave just before the end. Morning Calm aims to offer a reflective and calm start to the day for people of any faith or none in the hustle and bustle of the West End of London.

As always admission is free.

Despite only beginning serious study of music at the age of fourteen, Edward has already proven himself to be a capable musician with many strings to his bow. His playing has been described as having “wide contrasts of tone colour and an impressive sense of drama”, “seemingly effortless agility” and “elegance and serenity”. In 2021, he was awarded the Trinity-Steinway scholarship, which led to numerous performances both in the UK and abroad - recitals at Steinway Hall, the Legnica Culture Centre in Poland, and Palazzo Cavagnis in Venice. He has also participated in masterclasses given with Isata Kanneh-Mason, Ilya Kondratiev, and in Poland with Vanessa Latarche, Dina Yoffe and Piotr Paleczny in the SIMA Classics Masterclass series. An avid chamber musician, Edward has recently had his debut recital with his new ensemble, the Consort Trio, which included his own arrangements of works by Piazzola for the Guilford Music Society which received rave reviews in the local press.

Edward’s deep understanding of music underpins his interest in composition and improvisation. He has had his orchestral work, “Paysage-Tableaux”, premiered by the London Mozart Players, who he also had his concerto debut with, as well as multiple chamber pieces premiered by RCM graduates JP Ekins and Henry Chandler. Additionally, he was hired by the RCM in 2024 to demonstrate many facets and styles of improvisation as part of the Global Conservatoires course: The Art of Improvisation which had sessions ranging from sonic meditations and improvising from a stimulus to Jazz and 17th Century Fantasias. Much of his early influence came from multiple concert tours to Italy and China as a member of the Trinity Boys Choir as well as performing as part of the children’s chorus in Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana e Pagliacci” at the Royal Opera House, and Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the London Coliseum, in addition to many other concerts at many major venues around the UK. The huge variety of musical output Edward produces no doubt feeds into his unique and personal interpretations and will bolster his musicality for years to come.

Edward currently studies at the Royal College of Music, London, under Mengyang Pan, with previous teachers including Martin Cousin and Richard Evans.
