Why Picasso?
Picasso is an artist that people tend to have strong opinions about. Depending on who you ask, the artwork of Picasso may be regarded as brilliant, obscene, virtuosic, careless chicken-scratch, or even some form of magic. Picasso is considered one of the most challenging (in multiple senses of the word) figures in art history – his many artistic phases and extraordinary capacity for visual invention, his probing and merciless insight, and not least his very troubling life. Things are never as simple as they might seem when it comes to Picasso. One thing that is certain is to understand the history of art; Picasso cannot be ignored. Just as much of his artwork is about confrontation, any honest exploration of his life is a confrontation also. Come with a curious mind and leave with a newfound understanding of Picasso and, perhaps, of art itself.
Local Life Member Trent Moriarty has lived in Seattle for over a decade after moving from his home state of Utah. Since his teenage years, he has said, “Passion is the fire of life!” With his passion and curiosity, he considers himself a lifelong student. Trent has delved deeply into the history of art and music, has written a number of short stories, and some of his original orchestral compositions have been featured in video games and on BBC Radio 3.
Monthly Gatherings are open to all, membership not required.
