Overview
Celebrate International Women’s Day with a friendly, empowering guided walk to Monsal Head in the beautiful Peak District.
This women-only and dog-friendly event offers a relaxed, sociable morning exploring one of Derbyshire’s most picturesque routes — the peaceful paths of Ashford-in-the-Water, the Monsal Trail, and the stunning Monsal Head viewpoint overlooking Monsal Dale.
We’ll finish back in Ashford village for coffee and cake — the perfect reward after a morning on the trail.
What to Expect
A scenic circular route with a mix of trails, woodlands, and open countryside
Beautiful views from Monsal Head and a chance to see the weir in Monsal Dale below
A relaxed and welcoming group atmosphere
Dogs are very welcome (on leads through farmland and livestock areas)
Women-only event, led by Hill & Moorland Leader Alex and her dog Leia
Route Notes
The walk begins with easy field paths and sections along the Monsal Trail, including a short tunnel (approx. 0.5 km).
We’ll then ascend through woodland — steep in parts with exposed roots — before reaching the viewpoint at Monsal Head.
Expect some uneven and muddy terrain, particularly in Monsal Dale.
The descent follows a disused lane with loose rock back into Ashford-in-the-Water, famous for its ducks and riverside charm.
