Monarch Miracle & Paint Chip Poetry

Learn to connect with nature in more meaningful ways at Monarch Miracle & Pain Chip Poetry on Friday, March 27 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Mansion Library.

Biologists Michael Jeffords and Susan Post will share insights and techniques on how to fully experience the natural world by creating more than just check marks, lists, or soon-to-be forgotten memories. Students will explore the monarch butterfly’s migration and overwintering patterns as they marvel at the world's biodiversity and use paint swatches to create a visual poem.

$10/person. Registration will close March 23 or when capacity is reached. All sales are final.

About the Instructors

Dr. Michael R. Jeffords is the retired education/outreach director for the Natural History Survey (INHS). Mr. Jeffords is an entomologist, freelance photographer, writer, and educator focused on biodiversity.

Susan L. Post is a retired research scientist of entomology at the Illinois Natural History Survey with a focus on exotic, invasive species. Susan is a photographer and freelance writer and the author of Hiking Illinois.

Michael and Susan have traveled the world to research, photograph, and write about the beauty and wonder of the natural world. The following books have been co-written by Michael and Susan:
