MONAGHAN DRAMATIC SOCIETY PRESENTS NEWSIES- THE MUSICAL BY ALAN MENKEN, JACK FELDMAN & HARVEY FIERST

Newsies - The Musical is based on the 1992 Disney film of the same name, which itself was inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. The story follows Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy, who rallies fellow newsies to strike against newspaper tycoons Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst after they raise distribution prices Angered by the unfair change, Jack organizes the newsies into a union and leads a citywide strike. With help from Davey and Les, two brothers new to the business, and Katherine Plumber, a determined reporter, the newsies fight for fair treatment.
The musical features high-energy choreography, memorable songs, and a story about young newsboys standing up against social injustice.
